As the law currently stands in England & Wales, Celebrants are unable to conduct the legally binding element of a Marriage. However, this legal part simply involves the process of completing the necessary paperwork at The Register Office to ‘Register your Marriage’ and reading out the statutory wording. That's it.
The ‘ceremonial’ bits which makes a wedding what it is – such as walking down the Aisle, saying your personal Vows to each other and exchanging rings – are all saved for your beautiful Ceremony with me. You can even sign a 'Wedding Certificate' if you want to.
By completing these legal formalities separately, you are then free to design and have a Ceremony that reflects ‘you’ and your relationship - making it completely bespoke, with no set format or restriction - making the ceremony the ‘heart-beat’ of your day, rather than a standard boring service that your guests have to ‘sit through’ until the party starts !
The legal requirements of a marriage, are not about the emotions and love of the day. The 'Wedding' is the 'Ceremony' – where you declare your love and commitment to each other in a way that means the most to you, in front of those that love you. This ‘ceremony’ is the bit that everyone will remember, will celebrate in years to come as an anniversary, and it is what happens at this ceremony that will touch your loved ones hearts - and as your Celebrant, we will work together to design a ceremony that is everything you expect and want from your wedding - and so much more !
You don’t register a birth on the day the baby is born.....
You don’t register a death on the day you lose a loved one....
You don't need to register your marriage on your beautiful Wedding Day ! - it’s just the paperwork bit !
I am here to guide you through all of this - so if you're unsure of anything - please just give me a call x
